To add a Q&A activity to your design, just drag and drop the activity in the authoring canvas and double click on it to set it up.

Let's start with the activity description and instructions:

Title: This is the name of the activity shown to students.
Use a clear and meaningful title that reflects the topic or task (e.g. Business Ethics / Corporate Responsibility).
Instructions:
This is where you provide guidance and expectations for students.
You can include:
The purpose of the activity
Step-by-step instructions
Expectations for quality of responses
Criteria for peer evaluation
👉 Use this space to set the tone and depth of the activity.
Questions list
The questions section is where you can add your questions.

You can create your own questions or import open-ended questions from the Question Bank.
Adding questions
Questions in the Q&A activity are essay type of questions. When adding questions directly by pressing the "Add question" button to begin.

When adding a question, questions must have a title and a question description (the body of the question).
Additionally, as all questions in LAMS are saved in the Question Bank, you are able to specify the question collection where this question should be saved.
Questions settings
When you add a question to a Q&A, you define what students will respond to and how their responses are structured and guided.
Question Title
This is the name of the question shown to students.
It should be clear, concise, and focused on the core idea.
👉 Use titles that frame the enquiry (e.g. Is Corporate Social Responsibility Genuine or Strategic?).
Question Description
This is the main content of the question where you provide full context and instructions.
You can include:
Background information
The main prompt or task
Expectations (e.g. justify reasoning, provide examples)
Sub-questions to guide thinking
👉 Use formatting (bold, paragraphs) to highlight key instructions.
Question Settings
Minimum words in a response
When enabled, you can require students to write a minimum number of words (e.g. 50 words). 👉 Helps ensure substantive, thoughtful answers rather than very short responses.
Question Feedback
Provide pre-written feedback or guidance related to the question.
This can be used to:
Reinforce expectations
Provide hints or prompts
Offer general feedback after submission
👉 Useful for scaffolding student responses or clarifying what quality looks like.
Question Learning Outcomes
Search and select learning outcomes to associate with this question.
You can tag the question with specific learning outcome names or codes.

Align the question with intended learning objectives
Track how activities support curriculum goals

Powerful Analytics
The analytics display the question in its full life-cycle -in which other lessons it has been used, full item analysis including (difficulty, discrimination index and point biserial coefficient). This is particularly important for the lecturer as it gives a clear picture on the reliability of the questions to include in their TBL lessons.

Question Options
One questions per page Displays each question individually so students must answer one before seeing the next; by default it is off, showing all questions on a single page..
Allow HTML/rich text editor Students are able to create responses that include rich text formatting.

Peer Feedback & Comments
These settings control how students interact with each other’s answers.

Rate answers
Enables students to rate peer responses using defined criteria
Rating criteria
Define the criteria students will use to evaluate responses
(e.g. Quality of Reasoning and Justification, Critical Insight and Reflection)
You can:

Reorder criteria (up/down arrows)
Delete criteria
👉 Use clear and focused criteria to guide evaluation
Minimum / Maximum rating values
Define the number or ratings to provide (e.g. 1–5)
If left blank, no fixed scale is enforced
👉 Helps standardise how students score responses

Set a minimum length to ensure meaningful comments (e.g. 50 words)
Notifications
Notify teachers on students’ responses
When enabled, you receive an email notification each time a student submits a response.
👉 Useful for monitoring participation in real time.
End of Activity
Lock when finished
When enabled, students cannot edit their responses after submission 👉 Useful for maintaining response integrity, especially in structured activities
Leader selection

Typically used in group or team-based workflows
Allows integration with team-based features, where a leader can be answer the questionson behalf of the team
The Leader selection tool is another LAMS activity that allows students to select a student leader or representative for their group. If this activity is present in your design, then you can specify that the Q&A questions should only be answered by the selected leader. Learning Outcomes
Mapping learning outcomes to activities is very useful for curriculum mapping.

As with all activities in LAMS, you can map your learning outcomes to this activity. If you want to add a learning outcome, just search for the particular outcome or type a new one it will be added to your list of learning outcomes for the future.
You can search Learning Outcomes by code or name.
