You can create your own questions or import open-ended questions from the [***Question Bank***](https://lamslearning.medium.com/the-mighty-lams-question-bank-61c49e222b7b).

#### Adding questions

Questions in the Q\&A activity are essay type of questions. When adding questions directly by pressing the `"Add question"` button to begin.&#x20;

![Adding questions](/files/2iRZiZ5ecvWUEVC7LckH)

When adding a question, questions must have a **title** and a **question description** (the body of the question).&#x20;

Additionally, as ***all questions in LAMS are saved in the*** [***Question Bank***](https://lamslearning.medium.com/the-mighty-lams-question-bank-61c49e222b7b), you are able to specify the question collection where this question should be saved.&#x20;

#### Questions settings

When you add a question to a Q\&A, you define **what students will respond to and how their responses are structured and guided**.

**Question Title**

* This is the name of the question shown to students.
* It should be clear, concise, and focused on the core idea.

&#x20; 👉 Use titles that frame the enquiry (e.g. *Is Corporate Social Responsibility Genuine or Strategic?*).

**Question Description**

* This is the main content of the question where you provide full context and instructions.
* You can include:
  * Background information
  * The **main prompt or task**
  * Expectations (e.g. justify reasoning, provide examples)
  * Sub-questions to guide thinking

&#x20; 👉 Use formatting (bold, paragraphs) to highlight key instructions.

**Question Settings**

**Minimum words in a response**

* When enabled, you can require students to write a **minimum number of words** (e.g. 50 words).\
  \
  👉 Helps ensure substantive, thoughtful answers rather than very short responses.

**Question Feedback**

* Provide pre-written feedback or guidance related to the question.
* This can be used to:
  * Reinforce expectations
  * Provide hints or prompts
  * Offer general feedback after submission

&#x20; 👉 Useful for scaffolding student responses or clarifying what quality looks like.<br>

**Question Learning Outcomes**

* **Search and select learning outcomes** to associate with this question.
* You can tag the question with specific **learning outcome names or codes.**

👉 This allows you to:

* **Align the question with intended learning objectives**
* Track how activities support **curriculum goals**

**Question Collection**

* **My questions** (dropdown)

  Choose where the question is stored.<br>

👉 This allows you to:

* **Save and reuse questions** across different lessons
* Organise your question bank for future use

{% hint style="success" %}
**Powerful Analytics**

The analytics display the question in its ***full life-cycle*** -in which other lessons it has been used, full item analysis including (difficulty, discrimination index and point biserial coefficient). This is particularly important for the lecturer as it gives a clear picture on the reliability of the questions to include in their TBL lessons.
{% endhint %}

![Leader selection for Q\&A ](/files/2iaTtBfPpMgD5ckMTtH0)

* Typically used in group or team-based workflows
* Allows integration with **team-based features**, where a leader can be answer the questionson behalf of the team

The [Leader selection](/lams/tools/leader-selection.md) tool is another LAMS activity that allows students to select a student leader or representative for their group. If this activity is present in your design, then you can specify that the Q\&A questions should only be answered by the selected leader. See the [Leader selection activity](/lams/tools/leader-selection.md) for further details and examples.&#x20;

### Learning Outcomes

{% hint style="success" %}
**Mapping learning outcomes to activities is very useful for curriculum mapping.**
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/YApR5XKQrnvUW3pvhc1i" alt=""><figcaption><p>Add learning outcomes to the activity</p></figcaption></figure>

As with all activities in LAMS, you can map your learning outcomes to this activity. If you want to add a learning outcome, just search for the particular outcome or type a new one it will be added to your list of learning outcomes for the future.

You can search Learning Outcomes by code or name.
