## ![](/files/MoFEkJk6bRG35d6C0X9s) Intro

A Zoom activity is an integration with the popular video conferencing application [Zoom](https://zoom.us).

Zoom allows teacher to set up virtually meetings with students either by video or audio-only or both, all while conducting live chats - and it lets teachers record those sessions so students that were not present when the meeting was conduced, can view it later. Meetings can host

The [Zoom software](https://zoom.us/download) is a versatile and ubiquitous chat and video conferencing application available and compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Chrome OS, and Linux.

LAMS and Zoom are integrated so teacher can schedule and launch Zoom meetings directly from their LAMS lessons.

As Zoom supports [breakout rooms](https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206476093-Enabling-breakout-rooms) (ability to split a Zoom meeting into small groups/session), it can help teachers to managed small group collaborations within the classroom.

### Why do I want to use a Zoom?

1. Conduct virtual lessons with your students and recreate a similar experience as an in-house lesson.
2. Because Zoom is integrated with LAMS, all the security and authentication is assured. So no random [Zoombombers](https://www.commonsense.org/education/articles/teachers-essential-guide-to-zoom#What%20is%20Zoombombing?) can crash your Zoom meetings
3. The name and groups of your students will be displayed in Zoom making and managing you Zoom meeting very effective.
{% endhint %}

### What can I use Zoom for?

As a teacher, you can use a Zoom for various pedagogical purposes, but more important it is an excellent tool to delivery online synchronous lessons.

*Pedagogies that use Zoom:* [Team-Based Learning](https://docs.lamsfoundation.org/tbl/), Problem-Based Learning, Case-Base Learning, Jigsaw, Just-in-Time Teaching, etc.

### How does it work?

You (teacher) can create Zoom sessions for your students to launch directly the LAMS lesson. Students will be logged into Zoom using your institution credentials, ensuring that only authorised students and staff are able to join.

Once you create the Zoom meeting, you are able to start it at any time you want in Monitor. Then students will be able to join the meeting and proceed with their lesson simultaneously.
