Spreadsheet content

On the Basic tab, you are able to set:

  1. Title Make sure the title is self-descriptive, which clears the purpose of the spreadsheet and what is expected of students.

  2. Instructions Add general instructions that students might need to do with the spreadsheet. Also, it might be important for the students to know how the result is being calculated and how you will mark the score.

In the spreadsheet you can insert values or formulae to calculate or demonstrate a particular calculation.

Alternatively, you can set the spreadsheet so students have to use it to resolve a problem or calculation using their own formulas (see the two modes below).

Spreadsheet modes

The two modes that you can use the spreadsheet depend on the learning objective that you are pursuing.

Play only

If what you require is for your students to play with a set of formulae to attained a results but don't need them to create their own formula, then you can use this mode.

Play only example Say what you want to do is for students to calculate the interest rate that they will have to pay on a loan. Then you can set up the spreadsheet so the student only need to pluck their numbers (ie: interest rate, loan amount, period, etc) and the formulate that you set up will give them the result.

Learners allowed to submit individual spreadsheets

Alternatively, if what you want the students to do is to use the spreadsheet to create their own calculations and formulae and submit these for evaluation then, you want the Learners allowed to submit individual spreadsheets mode enabled instead.

Students, individually, will be able to create their own calculations and formulae and save these for your review.

If you want to mark the students' spreadsheet, make sure you set the Enable spreadsheet marking check box.

Learning outcomes

Mapping learning outcomes to activities is very useful for curriculum mapping.

As with all activities in LAMS, you can map your learning outcomes to this activity. If you want to add a learning outcome, just search for the particular outcome or type a new one it will be added to your list of learning outcomes for the future.

You can search Learning Outcomes by code or name.

Reflection and End of Activity

As in all LAMS activities, you are able to get your students to reflect on the activity as soon as they finish. This is an important part of learning and research shows that it is when we reflect upon what we just learn that long lasting learning forms. Adding instructions for students to reflect on the activity.
