On the Basic or Content tab, you are able to set:
Title Make sure you use a meaningful title that summarises what the students are meant to do.
Instructions Add general instructions about how to answer the question or questions (not the question it self though!).
The questions section is where you can add your questions.
Questions in the Q&A activity are essay type of questions. When adding questions directly by pressing the "Add question"
button to begin.
When adding a question, questions must have a title and a question description (the body of the question).
Additionally, as all questions in LAMS are saved in the Question Bank, you are able to specify the question collection where this question should be saved.
In the question settings, you can specify whether the question requires a minimum number of words (optional).
Questions can be also measure or tag to a Learning Outcome. If so, you can append the corresponding learning outcome to the question.
You can reuse previously created questions by adding them from the Question Bank.
By clicking the “Question Bank”
panel, several options are displayed. One of which is to add questions on From Question Bank is available.
When you select a question, then the question is displayed in full including the question version (Question Bank supports question versioning).
Once you decide on the question to be added, by clicking on the “Import” button, the question is then added to the Readiness Assurance Test.
Additionally, by clicking on “Stats”, you can view detailed analytics for the selected question.
Powerful Analytics
The analytics display the question in its full life-cycle -in which other lessons it has been used, full item analysis including (difficulty, discrimination index and point biserial coefficient). This is particularly important for the lecturer as it gives a clear picture on the reliability of the questions to include in their TBL lessons.
The Leader selection tool is another LAMS activity that allows students to select a student leader or representative for their group. If this activity is present in your design, then you can specify that the Q&A questions should only be answered by the selected leader. See the Leader selection activity for further details and examples.
One questions per page: in the case where you have more than one question for Q&A, enabling this option will render each question individually to students. So students would first need to answer the first question to be able to see the next question. By default this option is OFF, therefore all questions are rendered to the students in one page.
Allow HTML/rich text editor: when this option is on, then students are able to create responses that include rich text formatting.
No re-edit allowed: when the option is on, then students will not be able to re-edit their answers once submitted.
When students see each others' answers after they have submit their own, they can gain perspective from their peers.
When the option for Show answers from other learners is turned on, then students - right after a student answers the questions, he/she will be able to see the responses from other students.
By default only the answers of other students are shown but not their names next to their answers. However, you can show the name of the students next to their answer by selecting "Show names of other learners"
.
When enabling the option to rate and comment on others' answers you are able to set the criteria for students to rate and comment.
You can add multiple rating criteria, set a minimum and maximum number of answers to rate and finally allow students to comment on others' responses - setting a minimum words for commenting when needed.
Mapping learning outcomes to activities is very useful for curriculum mapping.
As with all activities in LAMS, you can map your learning outcomes to this activity. If you want to add a learning outcome, just search for the particular outcome or type a new one it will be added to your list of learning outcomes for the future.
You can search Learning Outcomes by code or name.
As in all LAMS activities, you are able to get your students to reflect on the activity as soon as they finish. This is an important part of learning and research shows that it is when we reflect upon what we just learn that long lasting learning forms.
